Genre: Fantasy, Crime
Release: January 22 – March 12, 2016
Carrying police drama story, Signal was categorized as a successful product in gaining high rating from viewers. It’s also success in attracting my attention to watch this drama. I have started to watch K-drama again since coming back to Indonesia. Signal is my 3rd K-drama. My first drama since then was Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (달의 연인 – 보보경심 려) starring famous young Hallyu star, IU and a handsome actor, Lee Joon-Gi. The drama brought us back to Goryeo period. Thought that was some fantasy part of the drama, I still could enjoy how they brought us to an old South Korean history. However, by adopting fantasy genre, precisely related to a time paradox, both of Scarlet and Signal are still worth to be watch. I think it’s becoming a trend in recent K-dramas, about time paradox, right?
“What will you do if you can communicate with someone in the past to change the past or even the future?”
A young profiler, Park Hae-Young, with a sad history of his family, receives a mysterious transmission from an old walkie-talkie. Firstly, he can’t believe that he communicates with a detective, Lee Jae-Han from the past. Coincidentally, detective Lee Jae-Han in the past is working on same cases as Park Hae-Young who is assigned to solve cold cases. He works on the same team as a bravely female cop, Cha Soo-Hyun. The destiny makes them as a great co-op to solve the cases. Through that mysterious transmission, they try to solve the fishy cold cases by finding even the teensy clues and secrets behind the incidents. One of the cases is related to Park Hae-Young’s brother death. He wants to save his brother from the past. Can they change the destiny?
Starring talented actor, Lee Je-Hoon as a young profiler (Park Hae-Young) and supported by senior actress and actor, Kim Hye-So as a female cop (Cha Soo-Hyun) and Cho Jin-Woong as a detective from the past (Lee Jae-Han), this fantasy-crime series shows us that K-drama not all about romance. Well-built storyline by Kim Eun-Hee, combined by great directing by Kim Wom-Suk produced this astonishing drama.
Inspired by true unsolved serial murder stories made this series became more real and emotional. The production was clever to blend fantasy, history, crime, and romance genre into this cool series. With its good storyline and flow, I could enjoy every episode. The superb acting of 3 main characters of this series, the well-built storyline, and the details of every minute were the factor of this drama being top K-drama in 2016. Getting near to the end of the series, its episodes became more intense. Every possibility of what would happen next keeps us on our toes till the end of the episodes. After watching this, I can say that it’s the best K-drama I ever watched. A must watch!
